Justo Hernández RESUMEN Breve historia del aparato respiratorio En este trabajo se ha hecho un breve recorrido histórico que recoge los principales avances en relación con el aparato respiratorio. En este proceso, debe destacarse como gran punto de inflexión el descubrimiento de los alvéolos por Malpighi. A partir de ese momento comienza el estudio del papel de aire en la respiración y su necesidad para la vida. Más adelante, comenzarán a desarrollarse el pulmón artificial, la respiración mecánica y, finalmente, el transplante pulmonar. SUMMARY A short history of the respiratory apparatus In this paper a short historical course reporting the main advances concerning the respiratory apparatus has been carried out. In this process, the crucial point of the discovery of the alveoli by Malpighi should be stressed. From this moment onwards the study of the function of the air in the respiration and its need for life has begun. Further on, the iron lung, the mechanic respiration and, finally, the lung transplantation will be developed. Key words: respiration, alveoli, iron lung, mechanic respiration, lung transplantation.
